Liturgical use

The jug and plate are the traditional instruments for the Rite of Baptism by infusion, used by the celebrant to pour water over the head of the candidate while the plate collects the water below. The brass jug-and-plate combination is standard liturgical equipment in parish sacristies and is also found in the private chapels of seminaries and religious houses.
