Liturgical and devotional use
Saint Lucy, virgin and martyr of Syracuse from the third century, is venerated as patroness of the blind and protectress of sight: her statue is a constant presence in churches dedicated to her, in parish chapels and at votive altars throughout southern Italy. At 110 cm, she is suited both to wall niches and to pedestal placement in the nave. Glass eyes add expressive realism that is especially valued in devotional statues.
