Liturgical use
The offertory ciborium is used during the preparation of the altar to hold the unconsecrated hosts before Mass. Its low, wide shape makes it easy to open and arrange the small hosts, while the lid provides the protection needed when carrying it from the sacristy to the altar. The four available diameters allow the size to be chosen according to the number of the faithful expected to receive Communion.
