Liturgical use
The pyx is the instrument of the minister of Communion to the sick: it carries the consecrated hosts during visits to the infirm, to the elderly in care homes and to the faithful who are not mobile. The enamelled image of the Good Shepherd is a direct Gospel reference to the meaning of the visit: bringing Christ to those who cannot reach him. The compact size (diameter 5.4 cm) makes it easy to carry in a clerical pocket or liturgical bag.
