Liturgical and devotional use

Saint Francis of Paola, founder of the Order of Minims and patron of Calabria and of seafarers, is venerated with particular intensity in southern Italy and in communities of southern Italian emigrants throughout the world. His feast on 2 April is celebrated with processions and patron-saint festivals in the towns and villages of Calabria and Campania. A 90 cm statue suits side niches, votive chapels and devotional displays in Minim churches and in parishes that venerate him as patron.
