Liturgical use
The consecration cross marks the points on the church wall anointed with sacred chrism during the solemn Rite of Dedication. According to the Roman Rite, twelve crosses are affixed to the walls; in some traditions the number is four. The sunburst design in gold-plated brass is the most widespread type in churches of the Roman tradition. The 26 × 26 cm size ensures visibility even in wide naves, while remaining unobtrusive within the overall decorative scheme of the church.
